Don Nagle’s Isshinryu Karate is in Jersey City, NJ. Don Nagle trained under Isshin Ryu founder, Shimabuku Tatsuo, in Okinawa and eventually became an 9th Dan in the art. He open the dojo in the 1960s and his student, Dennis Hoare, has been running the dojo since Nagle’s passing in 1999. Isshin Ryu is a hybrid style that mixes Shorin Ryu, Goju Ryu, and Kobudo. Very few Isshin Ryu dojo exist on Okinawa today and the United States has the most concentration of Isshin Ryu dojo. The dojo teaches adults and children.

Baxter Karate Dojo is on Central Park Ave in Yonkers, New York. Shihan Cleve Baxter is a Kyoshi 8th Dan in Shorin Ryu Karate and a 5th Dan in Yamanni Ryu ( Yamane Ryu) Kobujutsu, under Toshihiro Oshiro Shihan. Shihan Baxter is a retired NYPD detective and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Asian Studies (as do I). The dojo teaches adults and children.

The New York Rendokan is in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, NY. Hanshi Robert S. Weinberg (9th Dan) has been teaching people of all ages Traditional Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate, Toei Ryu Jujutsu, and Okinawan Kobujutsu since the 1970s. He is a senior student of Eizo Shimabukuro Sensei (Shobayashi Shorin Ryu).The dojo rents space in a Protestant church and is a short walk from the 191st Street 1 Train station.
