Warriors Nation MMA is a mixed martial arts gym in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. They offer classes in MMA, Wrestling , Muay Thai, Boxing, but specialize in Dutch Style Kickboxing. Dutch Style combines Kyokushin Karate, Western Boxing, and Muay Thai to produce a fighting style that concentrates on punching and low kick combinations.

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu NYC is on 43rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan. Instructors Reynaldo De Leon and Cece Mena are Los Angeles natives and accomplished grapplers and mixed martial artists. With black and purple belts under Eddie Bravo they teach Jiu Jitsu, MMA, and Boxing at the academy.

Radical MMA is on 29th Street on Manhattan’s West Side. Owned and operated by Rene Dreifuss, a Karate, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. Rene trained in Shotokan Karate under Toyotaro Miyazaki in Queens and eventually moved to Japan to study Judo at the Kodokan. Unfortunately, a car accident left him severely injured and forced him to move back to New York. He got into Jiu Jitsu and MMA after recovering. He speaks Japanese and has a Master’s Degree in Asian Studies ( I have an undergraduate degree in the same subject.). Radical MMA teaches classes in Combat-style Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, and Shoot Boxing. Rene also hosts The Martial Culture Podcast.

The Osaka Isami store sells equipment for both traditional martial arts and MMA as well has shirts, DVDS, and books. I used to go here quite often when I lived in the Kansai area and it’s a pretty cool place. They often have flyers for different dojo and events in the area. The Osaka store is just a few doors down from the Osaka Prefectural Arena, which plays host to Sumo and various martial arts tournaments throughout the year. It’s about a 5 minute walk from Namba Station. Nipponbashi, Den Den Town, and Dotonbori are all within a 5-10 minute walk.

Notes/コメント：Kudo was founded in 1981 by Azuma Takashi, a former Kyokushin branch chief in Sendai City. Kudo combines full contact Karate and Judo to form a type of mixed martial arts. Face punches are also allowed. To my understanding, Daido Juku is the name of the style, while Kudo is what the art being practiced is called. The Honbu Dojo moved into a new location near Zoshigaya Station in 2019. After a battle with cancer, Azuma Sensei passed away in April 2021.
